Harmony, a gold mining and exploration company, recently honoured the academic achievement of its employees at Stonehenge Conference Centre in a graduation ceremony where 76 delegates became graduates of the Leadership Development Programme (LDP).

The programme, designed for team leaders right up to executive levels, was introduced in 2017 by Harmony in collaboration with Mandate Molefe, Maccauvlei Learning Academy and Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP). It focuses on further creating a pool of leaders that are well-rounded in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes and mind-sets, as well as values, character and constant understanding of the environment in which they operate, how to lead and ways of managing conflict and the challenging dynamics of the working environment.

“I’m extremely proud to be a part of this auspicious occasion where we, as the executive team of Harmony, get to witness the first group of our employees graduating in this programme. Your role as a leader is to unpack the future, understand it and make it relevant for the environment in which we operate and live. Embrace this momentous occasion and take what you’ve learnt back into your working places,” said Beyers Nel, Chief Operating Officer.

As the graduation ceremony continued with a positive energy, Sylvia Seleka, Talent Acquisition Manager, presented the certificates with the executive members, including the top delegate awards.

Of the 76 delegates enrolled in the programme, 18 obtained their qualifications cum laude. For some delegates, academic excellence came as a result of long hours of studying, research, applying their minds and tireless work. In the case of two employees from Doornkop Mine, Seromo Mofokeng was recognised as the best overall achiever with a 100 per cent pass mark and received several other recognition awards while Mabo Malaza, a Human Resources Leader, also achieved a 100 per cent pass mark.

Congratulations to all the Leadership Development Programme graduates.
